Therapeutic
Communities
for psychiatric patients
The "REDANCIA" plan was born in 1990 as a tool of specific intervention in
the process of care and rehabilitation of the psychiatric patients.
The idea rises in the '90 from the necessity to propose a pattern of
integrated intervention, taking in consideration the environment of origin,
the family, the previous therapist of each individual guest and offering a
place in which test the residual abilities giving adeguate stimulations
according to the ability of each individual patient.
The Redancia project arises from a practical need: the necessity of doctors,
psychiatrists, nurses and educationalists to find a place where they can
share their experiences about the treatment of the psychiatric patients.
New operators support the "old group" of operators coming from classical
experiences of a hospital (S.P.D.C. and psychiatric hospital).
The new operators (university graduates or new graduates) have great
enthusiasm but are completely inexperienced.
It is important to train them to promote a new professionalism that we could
define "operator of a therapeutic community".
The group has particular attention for the therapeutic treatments; a
psycoanalist , regular member of the S.P.I. , takes care of it.
The method that Redancia proposes is "integrated participation" within the
therapeutic community. |

To learn from the experience
Redancia takes in consideration the original environment, the family, the
patients and tries to give them a "transitional environment"; it is a kind
of training that provides the patient with stimulations step by step
stronger for the social reinstatement.
Redancia has several residences with different structural features that are
interchangeable in relation with the therapeutical stages.
The smaller structures are similar to little apartments that exact greater
autonomy from the patients.
